Stacey, Learning Disability Coordinator, has worked in adult education for the past ten years.  She supports teachers and students through the use of LD screening instruments and individualized curriculum.  She provides training opportunities to teachers and volunteers through Bridges to Practice Training, ProLiteracy Training of Trainers, Laubach and ProLiteracy Tutor Training, LitStart Tutor Training, and other various individualized agency trainings.
 
   
 
    Roxane Rolingson, Central Region

Roxane worked in the United Kingdom for 12 years in the field of Support Work for Adults with Learning Disabilities. Among other things, her job included training the people who worked with the LD Adults to be more aware of the difficulties those individuals faced in their daily lives. She has U.K. National Vocational Qualifications in: Management, the social work field of “Promoting Independence for Vulnerable Adults”, and Training and Development. Upon returning to the USA two and a half years ago she began teaching ESL classes in a rural community outside of Austin however she has now settled in Corpus Christi.

    Vicki Angel, East Region

With a background in teaching math at the community college and secondary level, Vicki joined the Bowie-Cass Adult Education Cooperative in Texarkana six years ago.  She works with ABE and GED students and also assists students in preparing for the THEA and the ASVAB tests. Vicki has completed the Master Teacher Institute and is a Special Learning Needs Resource Specialist. She is also a trainer of Effective Instruction for all Adult Education Students including those with Special Learning Needs. She is currently participating in the Teacher Credential Program. She has a B.S. in Math from Sam Houston State University and an M.S. in Education from East Texas State University at Texarkana with a specialty in math.

    Lorraine Wakeland, Coastal Region

Lorraine attended college in Arizona and at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, where she received her Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Special Education.  As a sixth grade teacher, Lorraine had the unique privilege of teaching at her alma mater, Bay Area Christian.  She is currently employed as an Adult Education Instructor in the ABE/GED department at College of the Mainland.  Lorraine has brought her elementary school teaching experience and Special Education background to the “GED Court-Ordered” classroom.  She is very excited about the “Effective Instruction for All Adult Education Students Including Those with Special Learning Needs” program and looks forward to training educators across Texas.

Karen Greer is an Adult BBE and ABE Instructor from Victoria Adult Education Center in Victoria. Besides being a SLN Trainer she participated in numerous other initiatives. She is available for any region. Karen brings many years of teaching Home Economics to her presentations to make them realistic and useable.

    Kay Vacarro, Coastal Region

Kay, a Program Manager for Harris County Department of Education, has been in adult education since 1987. A graduate of the University of Texas, Austin, she has taught all levels of ESL and ABE through GED (ASE) in learning centers, site classrooms and the workplace. In 1995 she received the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award from the Texas Association for Literacy and Adult Education (TALAE). As a State Trainer she presents on various adult education topics, including TABE and BEST training, ESL and GED strategies and teaching styles and techniques. She is also certified as a BEST Plus Trainer by the Center for Applied Linguistics. She just recently completed her requirements for a Certified Manager for Program Improvement. (CMPI).

    Jan Whisonant, North Region

As a full-time adult education instructor with the Fort Worth ISD, Jan has over 22 years of experience teaching adults.  She is a skilled professional development trainer and  has presented many trainings statewide including lessons planning for multi-level ABE/ASE classes, instructional strategies, TABE training and many other adult education topics.  Jan is also a Standards Specialist and state trainer for the Texas Content Standards Project and is a Resource Specialist and state trainer for the Special Learning Needs initiative.  She welcomes the opportunity to  work with teachers and administrators interested in the Special Learning Needs training.

    Carol Speigl, South Region

Carol has over 20 years of experience working with ESL, GED, and literacy students.  She is currently teaching multilevel ESL classes for the Northeast Adult Education Program, and was recently named the 2008 Adult Education Teacher of the Year.  She is also director of Project Learn to Read of San Antonio, an ABE and ESL provider, with which she has been associated since 1989.  Additionally, Carol is an accomplished professional development trainer, having worked with the ESOL Project, Texas A&M University-Kingsville; the National Institute for Literacy; and The Texas Professional Development Group, presenting both statewide and nationally.  Carol has extensive experience working with adults who have learning difficulties.  In 2008 she completed training to become a program resource person for the Texas’ Special Learning Needs Initiative and, in 2009, became a Special Learning Needs Trainer of Trainers.

Carol has been employed at Midland College in the ABE/GED program for 15 ½ years. During her years of service at Midland College, she has been a GED Instructor

and for the past four years has been the GED Coordinator. It has been her responsibility to seek fresh and different avenues to better the instruction of our students. She has committed 2 years to the SLN Training and believes by instituting the principles of the training that our students will benefit tremendously. She is looking forward to serving as a State Trainer.

    Alex Baez, M.A.-TESOL
Is a former adult education and college/university instructor. For the past 15 years, Alex has developed and presented professional development trainings for adult education programs throughout Texas, and is a co-founder of The Texas Professional Development Group. A former president of TexTESOL III (Central Texas affiliate), Alex is currently board president of Project Learn to Read of San Antonio, an adult literacy, ESOL, and adult basic education provider. Alex has 10 years' experience conducting trainings about learning disabilities and special learning needs among adult learners.

    Angela Dalrymple
Angela has numerous years of experience teaching adults in various subjects and skills both within and outside of the traditional classroom. She is an adult education instructor with Region VI, Brenham ISD, and has completed her training to become a local program resource specialist. In 2010, she received her certification as a Special Learning Needs Trainer. She is a graduate of Baylor University with a BS in Education, Sylvan Reading and Math certified, and was selected as Texas Community Education Teacher of the year for 2007-2008. Angela makes it her personal goal to incorporate FUN in the classroom for her students, as well as her class participants.

    Cindy Fox
Cindy has worked with the Education Service Center, Region 17, Adult Learning Center in Lubbock, Texas since July, 2002. She served as the TANF Coordinator visiting the rural classrooms of the 20 county area in the Panhandle of Texas. Cindy then began teaching evening ABE/GED classes along with her TANF duties. She is now the computer skills teacher, computer resource and research for ABE/GED teachers and classes and still has an ABE/GED class on the Texas Tech University campus for the employees of Hospitality Suites and Housing Services. Cindy also provides training and professional development opportunities for the Adult Educators and staff in the 20 county region. She spent 17 years with a large corporation in the accounting/human resource department. Her knowledge of the business world helps to prepare students for the transition from school to work.

    Amelia Gilley
Amelia Gilley works in the field of adult education teaching basic literacy, GED, and ESL classes. She held a supervisor position with the Literacy Council of Tyler for more than 10 years. She is a master trainer for the Bridges to Practice Learning Disabilities Training and Dissemination Project, an initiative of the National Institute for Literacy. She has trained for a number of adult education and social service agencies including Literacy Texas, TALAE, TexTESOL, ProLiteracy America, Texas Education Agency, East Texas Council of Governments , and the Central, North, East, South, and Far West Region GREAT Centers . Amelia currently works as an independent consultant and trainer remaining in the field of adult education and teaches a GED class two nights a week.

    Audrey Nelson-Ricks
Audrey Nelson-Ricks currently serves as an Adult Education instructor at the College of the Mainland in Texas City, Texas. She has worked in Adult Education for five years as an ABE/GED instructor, English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor, and Lead Trainer. She received her Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas at Tyler and her Administrative Credentials from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. She has also completed the CELTA training course and participates in on-going professional development opportunities. Audrey trains for the Coastal Region GREAT Center and for state initiatives. She facilitates sessions in curriculum, instructional strategies and technology. Training sessions include, but not limited to STAR (Student Achievement in Reading), SLN (Effective Instruction for All Learners including those with Special Learning Needs), TISESL (Texas Industry Specific English as a Second Language), Overcoming the Challenges: Basic Communication Skills for Beginning Literacy, ESOL Work-Based Academy, ESOL Reading Academy, EL Civics Institute. Audrey has served in the K-12 arena for 31 years as an administrator and teacher.

    Lorraine Romero
A Staff Developer with Houston Community College, Lorraine Romero has more than 25 years of experience developing Adult Education training and presenting at local and state events. Ms. Romero has taught ESL, Intensive English, Spanish, and reading in a variety of settings; in addition, she has participated in and overseen curriculum and materials development projects. After becoming a Special Learning Needs Resource Specialist in 2009, she has just completed the train-the-trainer process of the Effective Instruction for all Adult Education Students including those with Special Learning Needs statewide initiative. She also recently completed curriculum requirements and received the Teaching and Learning Excellence Certificate through Houston Community College’s Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence.

    Susan Sanchez
Susan has worked in the Adult Education field at Paris Junior College for the past 14 years. She has enjoyed teaching ABE, ASE and ESL students in a variety of situations and locations. She has also been the start-up person and coordinator for the Even Start and EL Civics programs. In the past, she has been a trainer/presenter for the Texas Standardized Curriculum Framework and professional development presenter for the local program. Susan looks forward to working with instructors interested in serving those adults who may have special learning needs.
